Yes.  Once opened, the product is exposed to oxygen, which provides an environment conducive to mold.  Once opened, product should either be consumed within 3-days or stored in the refrigerator to retard spoilage.

What do I do if my product's packaging is damaged?

Jack Link’s does not recommend that you consume product from a package that has been damaged or tampered with.  If you have questions about the safety of your product, contact our consumer relations team at 1-715-466-6608.

Is it okay to freeze Jack Link's Meat Snacks?

It is not necessary to freeze our products as they are shelf-stable for 12-18 months (depending on the product).  Although freezing will not harm the product, it may result in a change of texture and taste.  After prolonged freezing the meat snacks may develop a “freezer burn” taste.

What does a "Best By" date mean?

The date coded “Best By” date on our products is intended as a best consumed by date.  This means that in order to experience optimal color, flavor, aroma, and texture the product should be consumed prior to the date printed on the package.

What is a UPC bar code?

The Universal Product Code is the bar code that is printed on each package of Jack Link’s meat snacks.  The UPC code contains several thick, black, vertical lines with a group of numbers printed beneath them.  This bar code is used to scan products at the cash register and as a method of inventory control for the retail stores.  UPC bar codes are printed directly on the product packaging.

What is the shelf life of my unopened Jack Link's product?

The shelf life of unopened Jack Link’s products varies depending on the product.  In order to experience optimal color, flavor, aroma, and texture, the product should be consumed prior to the “Best By” date printed on the package.

What is the small white packet sometimes found in my package of jerky?

The small white package is an oxygen absorber and is found in some packages of Jack Link’s Beef Jerky (depending on package size).  This small packet is clearly labeled “Do Not Eat”.    Each oxygen absorber contains sterilized clay and elemental iron.  The packet helps absorb any oxygen that may be found in the package helping to retard the opportunity for spoilage.  If this packet is consumed by a human or pet less than 25 pounds, please seek medical attention immediately.

How do I find out which spices and flavorings are in my favorite Jack Link’s products?

Numerous flavoring components fall under the classification of “spices” and “other flavorings”.  We are not able to divulge our proprietary recipes.

Are all Jack Link’s products allergen free?

Jack Link’s meat snack products may contain an allergen.  We have completed thorough nutritional and ingredient analysis for each of our products.  If a common allergen is found in a product it will be listed on the ingredient statement or clearly identified beneath the ingredient statement on the package.  If there is no allergen statement on the package, the product does not contain any known allergens.  Should you have questions or need further clarification, please contact a Jack Link’s Consumer Relations Specialist at 1-715-466-6608.

Are your products safety tested?

Yes!  Jack Link’s utilizes leading edge quality control equipment, quality control labs, and a state-of-the-art microbiology lab.  Our quality control team checks all package seals before and after the product is produced.  Once the quality control technicians are satisfied that all qualitative (e.g. color, flavor, texture) and control measures are met, the product is released for shipment to stores across the country.  Our entire staff is dedicated to ensuring that Jack Link’s products reach America’s consumers as safely and as flavorfully as possible.
