Jack Link’s Race to the Loot 2021
June 12th is National Jerky Day, and Jack Link’s created a competition where wild is the standard. Introducing Race to the Loot, an event curated to embody what it feels like to eat Jack Link’s jerky.
We honor those who push their limits and want to help you Feed Your Wild Side. For the untamed adventurers, the strivers, and the people with the wild willingness to say yes. In 2021, four teams of two elite adventurers competed in an intense, Sasquatch®-approved climb up a 6,000-foot-high hill in the terrain of Arizona’s Jerky Butte. (Yes, it’s really called that). The best part? The prize winners won a year’s supply of free jerky and $10,000. To watch the competition recap, click play below!
Competition Recap
The first phase of the race included three Jack Link’s-ified challenges – Jerky Jenga, Meating of the Minds, and Beef Stick Balance. These bite-sized events tested each team’s level of strategy, critical thinking, and collective equilibrium. Then, the second phase of the race was not your typical hike. The objective was to be the first team to locate a hidden cache near the top of the butte. Before crossing the start line, we equipped teams with radios, GoPro cameras, and a GPS to direct them to the cache. Upon reaching the coordinates, teams were presented with a limerick that provided clues on where to find the cache. The first team to overcome the challenge walked away with a year’s worth of unlimited Jerky and the $10,000 cash prize, courtesy of Jack Link’s. Team Wild Heat came close, but Team Peppered, a pair of forestry firefighters, took the prize!
Race to the Loot brought unexpected surprises. Team Peppered was a late addition to the race and donated the prize money to Wildland Firefighter Foundation, which provides relief for families affected by loss related to firefighting. Overall, this first-annual competition was a success, and Jack Link’s is ready for more wild adventures. Stay tuned for details on the 2022 version of Race to the Loot!
